January 20, 2020
Dear UT Community,
I hope you enjoyed your winter break and were able to spend time with family and friends during the holidays. It was wonderful to see so many of you at yesterday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day march and rally on the East Mall. Today, classes begin for the 2020 spring semester, and as always, there is an incredible energy on campus.
Longhorn football gave us a great start to the new year, with a big win over 11th-ranked Utah in the Alamo Bowl. The atmosphere was amazing that night, and I thank all of Longhorn Nation who visited San Antonio to support the team and turn the stadium burnt orange. And I want to give a special shout out to Texas Cheer for giving my granddaughter cheer lessons at her first bowl game!
Some highlights from the recent weeks include UT receiving recognition as the No. 6 best college for veterans in the country and the best in Texas, and UT alumna Renée Zellweger earning a Golden Globe for her starring role in the film “Judy.”
I wish you great success during the months of studying, learning, research, creativity and discovery that lie ahead. Welcome back to the Forty Acres!
Sincerely,
Gregory L. Fenves
