Dear UT Community,
Today, the City of Austin announced that the conditions prompting yesterday’s boil water notice will continue for at least several days, and possibly longer. That means tap water — unless boiled — is still, and will continue to be, unsafe to consume throughout the city and at UT. This affects every person in our community and will require us to rally together, support one another and abide by water restrictions.
The university remains open, and will continue to remain open, as do our Housing and Dining and Union facilities.
Thus far, our university has risen to the occasion and faced this challenge head on. I am grateful for the efforts of so many who have, so quickly, changed personal habits and adapted to these necessary safety requirements. Please keep it up. Follow the instructions for water consumption and be prepared to boil water for the duration of this event.
We ask that you take measures to reduce the amount of non-drinking water you use.
Please continue to follow the university on Twitter and Facebook for updates. You can also visit the emergency website for more information and answers to frequently asked questions. You will continue to receive updates in the days ahead from campus safety officials.
The week or two ahead will be inconvenient for everyone. I thank you for your cooperation and patience. We’ll get through this on the Forty Acres — as a university, as a community, as Longhorn Nation.
Sincerely,
Gregory L. Fenves
President
