May 9, 2019
Dear Students,
We’re already in the second week of May, and it’s hard to believe how quickly this spring semester has gone by. Tomorrow is the last day of class and finals are right around the corner.
I know that you have a lot of reading, studying, practicing, writing and research to do during the next few weeks. And the last thing I want to do is send you a lengthy message, so I’ll keep this short!
I just wanted to write to say how proud I am of what you’ve accomplished this past year. Each class — freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students — is distinct from the others and defined by a unique set of individuals with their own talents and accomplishments. Each one of you brings something to our campus and makes us the creative and dynamic, world-class research university we are today.
Whether you are graduating in a few weeks or reaching another milestone on the way to earning a UT degree, I congratulate you on an outstanding year and wish you the best during the rest of the month. Take care of yourselves and work hard — before you know it, the summer will be here. And for all of the soon-to-be graduates, I look forward to celebrating your accomplishments at university-wide commencement on May 25.
Sincerely,
Gregory L. Fenves
President
