John Dalton Named Vice President for Student Affairs
Dear UT Students, Faculty and Staff,
I am excited to announce that John Dalton, who has served in numerous leadership roles over 25 years at our University, will become Vice President for Student Affairs on June 16. I am grateful that he has accepted this opportunity to serve, and I look forward to his leadership of our Division of Student Affairs.
John will be a key part of our University-wide leadership team. He will oversee a portfolio that serves all UT students, with departments including the Counseling and Mental Health Center, Disability and Access, the Longhorn Wellness Center, the Office of the Dean of Students, Recreational Sports, Texas Parents, University Health Services and University Unions. Throughout his career, John has championed student success, fairness, and the University’s mission, and we are grateful that he will help provide leadership for the entire University.
John is returning to the division where he began his UT career in 2000. As Assistant Dean of Students, John oversaw Student Conduct and Academic Integrity and New Student Services until 2006, when he became Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies in the Graduate School. In 2020, he moved to University Risk and Compliance Services, where he has served as Associate Vice President for the Department of Investigation and Adjudication. Before joining UT, he served for five years as Assistant Dean of Students at the University of Florida.
I would also like to thank Tom Dison for serving as Interim Vice President since January 2024. Throughout more than 50 years of service at our University, Tom has shown a lasting commitment to our students, and his leadership during the past 18 months has been especially valuable.
Please join me in welcoming John to this leadership role and thanking Tom for his outstanding service to generations of Longhorns.
Sincerely,
Jim Davis
Interim President
