A Strong Finish to a Memorable Year
Dear Students,
Congratulations – you did it! Except for finals, of course.
Another school year comes to an end today – a year when we were so grateful for the return to our full campus and the experiences it brings that make being a Longhorn so special. Thank you for bringing your energy and passion this year, and you are to be commended for your tenacity in pursuing your goals. The finish line is in sight, and I wish you luck next week as you take finals and finish your papers and projects. Also, please join me in thanking our stellar faculty members, who have so ably led you this semester in your research and learning, and our incredible staff members, who keep this great university going in countless ways.
To those about to graduate, a special second congratulations! We are so proud of every one of you. While “challenging” doesn’t begin to describe your college careers, you’ve proved to be tougher than a pandemic, and the skills and experiences gained during your time on the Forty Acres will serve you well as you pursue your goals and chase your dreams. Please stay connected with the professors and staff members who touched your life, and stay involved with UT as a proud Texas Ex. And in a couple of weeks, I look forward to celebrating you at our spectacular commencement!
To those continuing your UT journey, it’s just going to keep getting better. Whenever you get back to campus, whether that is in a few days or a few months, take full advantage of everything UT offers. You can ask the soon-to-be graduates – I expect they’ll tell you that their time at UT seems short upon reflection. So, embrace it and make the most of it! When you return, think about ways to take even greater advantage of being a student at such a special university in such a special place. Join a student organization and make new friends. Go to games, performances, exhibits and guest lectures. Explore new spots on our campus and in and around our city – all of which are home to some of the most spectular experiences in the nation. And finally, remember that as the Longhorn family, we’re all here for one another. This strong community of talented, diverse people is here to support you along your way.
I hope to meet more of you over time, so if you see me on campus, please say hello.
Hook ‘em!
