The investiture ceremony is the formal introduction of Jay Hartzell as the 30th president of The University of Texas at Austin and will include the presentation of presidential symbols.

In his State of the University Address, President Hartzell will share his vision and plans for the university.

Campus Celebration

Members of the UT campus community are invited to a celebration including BBQ, food trucks, entertainment and Longhorn favorites.

4—6 P.M.

Reception

After the campus celebration, a reception will be held in the Founder’s Lounge at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium for selected invitees to meet President Hartzell. Details below.

Know Before You Go

Seating opens at 10 a.m.

Bag check will be in effect — all bags will be searched

Prohibited items:

  • Banners, signs, flags, flag poles, selfie sticks, or umbrellas
  • Explosive and flammable materials, disabling chemicals and other dangerous items
  • Weapons
    No weapons of any kind are permitted in this event space. Any individual carrying a weapon on campus must secure their weapon in their vehicle or other property prior to entering this event space. This policy does not include weapons used by off-duty law enforcement officers.
  • Artificial noisemakers
  • Megaphones or any item that amplifies sound
  • Items deemed a safety hazard or annoyance (Frisbees, balloons, projectiles, laser pointers, fireworks, firearms, weapons, etc.)
  • Pets (except service dogs)
    The service dog should be wearing identifiable attire and be harnessed or tethered in some fashion
  • Tobacco products (See smoking and tobacco policy)

Meet the President

Jay Hartzell is the 30th President of The University of Texas at Austin. He previously served as the 12th dean of the McCombs School of Business and has been a member of the UT Austin faculty since 2001.

The inauguration will be held at the front steps of the Tower on the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Parking details will be sent via email.
