Dear Longhorns,

Welcome back. The spring semester is a perfect time to grow. You had a chance to rest and reflect on what you accomplished in the fall. Now you can build on what you know and discover what else there is to learn.

Be curious this semester. Pay attention to what stirs you. The classes you take, the people you meet, the ideas you encounter — they might awaken an interest you did not know was there. If you feel a spark, grab it. Don’t let it go.

For some of you, this might be your first spring on the Forty Acres. Take in the beauty of campus as the season unfolds. For others, like our students graduating in May, today is your last first day. I know that feeling is bittersweet.

Here is my advice to all of you: Be deliberate with your time here. This place is special. Take advantage of everything it has to offer. It will prepare you for what comes next.

To our faculty and staff, thank you for getting campus and classes ready for the start of the semester. Your dedication to our academic mission strengthens confidence in our entire University.

I look forward to seeing all that you accomplish. Enjoy the days ahead!

Sincerely,

Jim Davis
President
